French Ambassador Leonzi Hands Over Financial Donation to NGOs

Bratislava, June 7 (TASR) - The French Embassy in Slovakia has expressed appreciation in both financial and moral terms for the activities of NGOs helping the most vulnerable groups of people, TASR learnt on Wednesday.
French Ambassador to Slovakia Christophe Leonzi handed over a symbolic cheque for €5,000 to NGO Samaritan from Martin (Zilina region), which is involved in nursing and social services, and another for the same amount to NGO Kesaj Tchave, which provides a chance to talented Roma children through a private grammar school in Kezmarok (Presov region).
The support is the first specific result of a partnership agreement signed between the French Embassy and the Slovak branch of Groupe Up foundation LE CHEQUE DEJEUNER. The cooperation is aimed at supporting disadvantaged groups, civil society and structures of the social and solidarity economy in Slovakia. They jointly selected two projects this year, trying to increase the level of culture and education, health and care and development of related activities.
The French ambassador told TASR that the financial support is an expression of appraisal of the positive role that the two NGOs play in this field. He believes that projects like those supported by Groupe Up foundation don't only support those who need it, but can also make the economic environment more dynamic. "We support a new type of employment, creating jobs for people motivated for social work, helping professions that are very useful for society with their activities," said Leonzi.
Authorised representative of NGO Samaritan Ivan Tomka didn't hide the fact that an appraisal including financial support is a "nice surprise" that represents significant moral credit as well as economic assistance. "The contribution equals around 75 percent of our monthly costs. We'll use it to run our organisation and increase the quality of our services," he said.
Ivan Akimov, founder of NGO Kesaj Tchave, which helps talented Roma children, highlighted the significant psychological aspect of the appraisal.
The handover of symbolic cheques was held in the presence of Education, Science, Research and Sport Ministry State Secretary Olga Nachtmanova and Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry State Secretary Branislav Ondrus.
